SUMMARY:Open House and Reception for the 250th Student Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Open House and Reception for the 250th Student Art Show\n\n\n\n\n\nHigh school students from across the Commonwealth are creating artwork inspired by the “one if by land\, two if by sea” lantern at the Concord Museum as a symbol of the American Revolution and our nation’s continuing aspiration towards liberty and justice for all. All are welcome to a community open house to see the artwork and meet the artists. \n\n\n\nThe open house is free and no advanced registration is needed. \n\n\n\nInformation for Artists\n\n\n\nThe “one if by land\, two if by sea” lantern at the Concord Museum is a symbol of the American Revolution and the Patriot cause. Two lanterns were hung in the North Church in Boston on the night of Paul Revere’s midnight ride on April 18\, 1775\, the night before the first battles of the American Revolution in Concord and Lexington. These lanterns were the start of an eight-year war to create a new nation built on liberty and justice for all -an aspiration that people across the nation continue to stride towards today. \n\n\n\nArtwork can also be submitted for a juried review. Selected works will be included in a 250th exhibition at the Concord Museum. \n\n\n\nGuiding Questions: \n\n\n\n\nWhat do liberty and justice mean 250 years later as we mark the anniversary of the start of the American Revolution in 2025?  \n\n\n\nWhat does revolution mean to us today?\n\n\n\nAs an artist in the Concord community\, how do you want to inspire and instigate change\, lighting the way to a better future?\n\n\n\nHow do you\, through a work of art\, add insight into an issue and promote awareness in unique and powerful ways\, ensuring liberty and justice for all in our world today?  \n\n\n\nWho is typically remembered from the Revolution and how can artists broaden the diversity of people who are honored and remembered?\n\n\n\nLight is a starting point; we’re eager to see where you take this theme.\n\n\n\n\nContemporary Artists to Consider: \n\n\n\nTitus Kaphar\, Barbara Walker\, Ai Weiwei\, Shirin Neshat\, Kara Walker\, Lorna Simpson\, Yoko Ono\, Maya Lin\, James Turrell\, Olafur Eliasson\, and Anna Veronica Janssens. \n\n\n\nSubmission Instructions: \n\n\n\nStudents’ submissions will include final artwork\, digital photograph\, artwork title\, artist first and last name\, school\, and grade (we are only accepting works from high schoolers grades 9-12). Submissions should be sent to teachers and teachers should collect and forward all digital submissions to info@concordmuseum.org. All artwork should be delivered to the Concord Museum\, 53 Cambridge Turnpike\, Concord\, MA 01742 on March 4\, 2025.

SUMMARY:29th Annual Family Trees
DESCRIPTION:29th Annual Family Trees: A Celebration of Children’s Literature\n\n\n\n\n\nThis annual family-focused event celebrates children’s books and a love of reading throughdozens of decorated story trees. Crafted by talented local volunteers and organizations\,each tree features hand-made decorations inspired by a picture book.  Visitors can explore the artistic trees and families can sit and read together or do a festive scavenger hunt.  Experience – in an entirely unique way – both beloved classic stories and new books from award-winning local authors and illustrators. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s honorary chair is author and illustrator Micha Archer. “What a wonderful tradition! Years ago I decorated the Family Trees BIG tree for a book I illustrated called Lola’s Fandango by Anna Witte\, about a little girl learning Flamenco from her dad. I covered the tree with flamenco dancers and polka dots! What a fun way to draw a child into a story! This year I am so honored that my new book What’s New Daniel? will be brought alive for this magical event!” \n\n\n\nOn Sunday\, December 15\, join us for Authors & Illustrators Day and a special visit from costumed characters. \n\n\n\nVisit Family Trees Tuesday to Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm or Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Advanced ticketing is not needed. The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving\, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and is open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. \n\n\n\nFamily Trees is a fundraiser for the Museum’s education initiatives.  Admission is $20 Adults; $15 Seniors & students; $10 Youth (6-17); $5 Children (3-5); Free Children (2 and under).
