DESCRIPTION:28th Annual Family Trees: A Celebration of Children’s Literature begins on November 22\, 2023 through January 1\, 2024! Concord’s literary legacy is given a creative twist as dozens of trees and wreaths of all shapes and sizes are decorated with charm and inspiration from acclaimed children’s books. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s honorary chair Danielle Hill Greendeer is the author of Keepunumuk: Weeâchumun’s Thanksgiving Story. “It’s important for indigenous children to see themselves and their culture represented within literature\,” Greendeer shared. “I wrote Keepunumuk so my own children and all Wampanoag children will know they are loved\, seen and heard. Their voices matter.” \n\n\n\nOn Sunday\, December 10\, join us for Authors & Illustrators Day and a special visit from costumed characters Elephant and Piggie. \n\n\n\nFamily Trees is open at the Concord Museum Tuesday to Sunday through January 1 (Closed November 23\, December 24\, and December 25).  Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday to Friday and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.   \n\n\n\nFamily Trees is a fundraiser for the Museum’s education initiatives.  Admission is $18 Adults; $15 Seniors & students; $10 Youth (6-17); $8 Children (3-5); Free Children (2 and under). DESCRIPTION:Learn how a fancy silk and wool shoe connects to the important role women played in boycotting goods from England during the American Revolution. In the 18th century\, American milliners often imported fancy English shoes for sale to their customers\, but unpopular tax laws from the British government led colonists to protest by refusing to purchase items imported from England\, including textiles. DESCRIPTION:What Makes History? New Stories from the Collection\n\n\n\n\nThe things we keep matter for the stories we tell. What objects do we choose to preserve\, and who is able to collect them? Why were they once valued\, and how can we continue to see them in new ways? \nThis special exhibition explores what it means to make history through object collecting\, preservation\, and storytelling. Visitors will see a variety of collections from the Museum’s holdings\, offering the rare opportunity to look closely at several kinds of a particular item. By displaying these eclectic collections together\, What Makes History encourages visitors to think about how and why these objects were saved so that we might view them decades and even centuries later. \nHighlights include a sampling of the Museum’s vast collection of fans from around the world\, beautifully painted fireplace bellows produced by free Black workers in Acton\, MA\, in the 19th century\, as well as chairs\, textiles\, card cases\, and timepieces.
