SUMMARY:Anatomy of a Desk and Walden\, a game
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition brought focus to two iconic desks that played a major role in America’s literary tradition. The first\, a Windsor writing-arm chair\, was the desk at which Ralph Waldo Emerson penned his first book\, Nature. The second\, the humble green desk of Henry David Thoreau\, became no less a literary star as it accompanied Thoreau from the schoolroom where he taught with his brother to the pond where he drafted his most influential work\, Walden. These two desks from the Concord Museum collection were exhibited side by side in the gallery.

SUMMARY:Patriots' Day 2017
DESCRIPTION:Make the Concord Museum—a gateway to Concord’s history—part of your family’s 2017 Patriots’ Day tradition as we commemorate “the shot heard ‘round the world” with activities for visitors of all ages. \nExplore the Concord Museum’s outstanding collection of treasures from April\, 1775 including the famous “one\, if by land\, two\, if by sea” Revere lantern; a sword from one of the soldiers of the British 10th Regiment; the sword of Minuteman James Barrett; a pair of pistols belonging to Major John Buttrick\, the officer in the Concord Militia who gave the order to fire; and a fife played by a young boy. In the “Defending Concord” history gallery\, discover the part these objects played in the events of the fateful day that began an eight-year fight for independence. \nAs the Concord Annual Patriots’ Day Parade heads through the center of town\, make sure to stop by historic Wright Tavern from 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. for more fun and games! Play colonial games and learn about the history of Wright Tavern\, constructed in 1747\, and the role the tavern played on April 19\, 1775. Wright Tavern activities are free and open to the public. \nConcord Museum Patriots’ Day activities are made possible in part with the generous support of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
