Description:
The Concord Museum, in historic Concord, Massachusetts, seeks friendly and dynamic individuals to join its museum interpretation team to orient and welcome visitors and families in the galleries during Family Trees, our special holiday event that runs November 27 to January 1. This annual family-focused event celebrates children’s books and a love of reading through dozens of decorated story trees in the Museum. Crafted by talented local volunteers and organizations, each tree features hand-made decorations inspired by a picture book. Visitors can explore the artistic trees and families can sit and read together or do a festive scavenger hunt. Interpreters greet visitors, answer questions, engage visitors and families in the galleries in conversations, and monitor museum galleries to ensure the safety of the collection and the trees. During this special event, we are looking for candidates who can work 6-25 hours per week (2-3 shifts) including at least one weekend day per week and have some availability around the holidays.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have experience in a customer service role or experience working with the public including adults, children, and families; previous experience in a museum or other cultural setting is a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. High school diploma or equivalent is required, some college preferred. Interest in museums, public history, and American history is highly desirable.
Family Trees interpreters are required to work at least one weekend day per week and weekday shifts and working some evening events are also available. This part-time position is perfect for college or graduate students, retirees, and others with a flexible schedule looking to be part of a dynamic team in a historic environment. Hours may vary from week to week for a total of 6 to 25 hours. Staying on after the Family Trees event closes in January is also possible for interested candidates.
