SUMMARY:Revolutionary Legacies
DESCRIPTION:Revolutionary Legacies\n\n\nHow have we remembered April 19\, 1775\, and the American Revolution over the last 250 years? \nFeaturing commemorative ephemera\, unique relics\, artworks and personal objects\, and contemporary works that respond to the Revolution’s legacy\, this special exhibition asks what we choose to remember—and what has been left out—as the public looks back to the founding of our nation. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience how the Revolution was remembered at key moments – in 1824\, 1875\, 1975\, and even 2025. By pairing revelatory historical objects with evocative contemporary works\, this dynamic exhibition asks all of us to reflect on our own role in building our nation today and for the future.  \nJoin Curator Gallery Talks at 11 am and 2 pm on opening day with Curator David Wood and Curator and Director of Exhibitions Christie Jackson. No advanced registration required. Free with admission.  \nVisitors will see: \n\nA rare 1823 facsimile of the Declaration of Independence in dialogue with a commissioned poem by contemporary artist Bonney Hartley (Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians) that together ask vital questions about who we include or exclude as we remember the founding of our nation.  \n\n\nUnique historical relics\, textiles\, clothing\, and personal objects that show how Americans imbued objects with historical memory\, ranging from cherished family objects used on April 19th\, 1775\,  to pieces of the North Bridge\, to a Revolutionary-era gown repurposed for the centennial\, to a relic made from George Washington’s coffin.  \n\n\nA infant’s bootie made from the original red coat of a British soldier who died in battle during the Revolution that provides a poignant example of the ways families repurposed original objects from the Revolution\, creating powerful living memories of the past.  \n\n\nOriginal artworks created by local high school students in response to the 250th anniversary of April 19th\, 1775\, that bring reflections of our nation’s founding all the way to the present day\, highlighting the voices of the next generation and inviting visitors to consider their own role in carrying forward the ideals of the Revolutionary period.  \n\n\n\nPlan your visit.  \n\n\n\nFeatured Objects\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nImages:  \n\n\n\nInfant bootie\, England and America\, about 1777. DESCRIPTION:Join us on a ride through the historic towns of Concord\, Lexington\, Lincoln\, Bedford\, and Carlisle on the second annual Paul Revere’s Bike Ride for the Concord Museum. Starting at the Concord Museum near the historic town center\, cyclists can choose to ride a 19 or 32 mile loop on paved roads\, passing many Revolutionary landmarks like the North Bridge\, the Lexington Green\, the Paul Revere Capture Site\, and much more! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister on BikeReg\n\n\n\n\nAll registrants will receive: \n\n\n\n\nPaul Revere’s Bike Ride T-shirt\n\n\n\nOn-course mechanical support and additional neutral road support\n\n\n\nFree admission to the Concord Museum on Ride Day\n\n\n\nPost-Ride Party with beer\, music\, and food trucks begins at 11:30 am at the Concord Museum. All are welcome!\n\n\n\n\nAll net proceeds from the events will support the Museum’s educational programs\, making it possible for more than 15\,000 school children to learn from the Museum’s unique collection and expert educators each year. \n\n\n\nCheck-in will be at the Concord Museum on May 16 starting at 8:30 am. Long loop cyclists will begin the ride at 10:00 am\, and short loop cyclists will begin the ride at 10:30 am. All registrants must check-in and pick up their packets and T-shirts before the ride. Avoid the lines\, and check-in early between Wednesday\, May 13 – Friday\, May 15 at the Concord Museum between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. \n\n\n\nFAQ\n\n\n\n\nCyclists under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult registrant.\n\n\n\nClass 1 eBikes are permitted. Each offers an approach to creating gardens that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape\, complement the architectural features of the home\, and offer delightful settings for everyday living.
