Family Trees: A Celebration of Children’s Literature
Digging into the Past (Grades 3-8)
2 ½ hours, 12-56 students, $13 per student
In this two-part program students are introduced to northeast Native culture through a table-top archaeological dig, object investigations, and Museum galleries. Students also explore the critical first encounters between English settlers and Native people in Massachusetts.
Native History Through Archaeology (Grades 3-8)
2 hours, 10-30 students, $13 per student
Native people have lived in this area for thousands of years and this program will introduce students to how we learn about cultures in the past and present. Students will explore Native culture and objects and become archaeologists through a table-top dig.
Two Worlds Meet (Grades 3-8)
2-2.5 hours, 10-75 students, $13 per student
Students explore the critical first encounters between Native People and English settlers in Massachusetts. Students analyze primary source documents, handle reproduction objects, and try quill writing.
Colonial Sampler 1 & 2 (Grades 2-6)

Colonial Sampler 2: 2.5 hours, 12-75 students
Learn what life was like for people in the colonies by exploring their work, possessions, clothing, and homes. Students will create pierced tin plates to take home.

3 hours, 2 classes or 50 students, $13 per student
September – November and April – June only
School-provided transportation must remain with group throughout the program
Students learn about the events surrounding the first battle of the American Revolution by immersing themselves in the world of Concord families in 1775 through role-playing activities. Using pre-visit materials, classroom teachers assign each student a role to prepare for an engaging program that includes everything from a visit to the Old North Bridge to a mock town meeting.
Colonial Life and Community (Grades 3-8)
Double program, 4 hours including a lunch break, 2 classes or 50 students, $20 per student with $20 materials fee per class. Winter and early spring.
Students learn what life held for people in the colonies by mapping out a typical colonial town and exploring the homes, work, chores, and clothing of the time. Students also gather around a cozy fire to discover the many ways colonial families used their hearth. During the program, students will sew their own sachet, make lavender soap, and create a pierced tin plate to take home.
The Life, Work, and Legacy of Henry D. Thoreau (Grades 5-12)
1-1½ hours, 10-45 students, $13 per student
Through discussion, guided tours and activities students are challenged to explore the life, ideas, and legacy of Henry David Thoreau by looking closely at actual objects that belonged to him to better understand him and his writing.
Concord Highlights Tour, Revolution Tour, or Concord Authors Tour
1 hour, 10-45 students, $10 per student
For students studying Concord history, the Revolution or the authors Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Museum offers guided tours tailored to your needs and interests. Tours can include hands-on, critical thinking components and can serve as an in-depth study or a first introduction. Tours last 1-1.5 hours. Learn more.

During this special exhibition, the Museum is filled with fanciful trees of all shapes and sizes, decorated with original ornaments inspired by acclaimed children’s storybooks and contemporary picture book favorites. Join us to visit the trees, do our scavenger hunt, read some of the books, discuss how stories are turned into decorations, and encourage literacy. Groups can come through for a guided visit or a program that includes a craft inspired by one of the trees.

Traveling Revolutionary Trunk
Teachers may borrow a trunk filled with reproduction primary source artifacts and documents that help make your Revolutionary unit come alive. Along with touchable objects, the trunk includes worksheets for students to use. This trunk allows the richness of the Concord Museum’s collection to come to your classroom as you study the events surrounding April 19, 1775. Trunks can be picked up at the Concord Museum.
