Boston was the artistic capital of eighteen-century America.  Join Dr. Paul Staiti, Mount Holyoke College Alumnae Foundation Professor, for a forum that sets the city’s key artists against the backdrop of revolutionary events.  In particular, look at the achievements of John Singleton Copley, known as the colonies’ supreme artist.

Dr. Paul Staiti is the Alumnae Foundation Professor of Fine Arts at Mount Holyoke College. He is the author of books and essays on John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, Samuel F.B. Morse, William Michael Harnett, and Winslow Homer. Dr. Staiti teaches courses on American art and architecture, as well as American cinema, and has lectured at the Louvre, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has received senior fellowships from the National Endowment of the Humanities three times.
